Still reading the Troma book (RATE! by the way), and Lloyd's dislike of Pretty Woman, Forrest Gump and Reality Bites almost brought a tear to my eye... This man is now my hero. Anyway, this got me thinking about other successful movies that i've watched in the past and thought "this could quite possibly be the worst message to the kids I've ever seen". My first point of call, Notting Hill.

Take a nice, intelligent, somewhat eccentric guy (Hugh Grant), and have him meet a huge star he's never heard of (Julia Someone). Have this huge star constantly dump him, backstab him, talk down to him and just overall treat him like complete and utter crap. Not good crap either, like "my room's full of crap" crap, but really crappy crap like "that cheeky bum song is absolute crap" crap. Now give this Hugh Grant character no spine whatsoever so he constantly takes this egomaniac back. Voila! A recipe for blockbuster!

Lesson for kiddies, popularity is a beautiful thing thing! If you're adored by many, you can treat the few people close to you like a doormat (not a good doormat either, the doormat you keep under the car in the garage to soak up oil leaks), and due to your popularity, everyone will treat you with respect and adoration regardless.
