Speaking of Pretty Woman...

I f#cking HATE! that movie!!!

I read that quote from Jennifer Jason Leigh in the Troma book* how she was doing a reading (or whatever you call it) for Pretty Woman and the casting guy said, "can you make it sound a little, lighter and you know happier?" She replied "This chick's giving b.j.’s to strange men for a living. I fail to see how she can do this and sound happy and light"... A good reason to rate J.J.L. (that - and she has a good acronymical name). My thoughts exactly. This is not some freaking fairy tale for crying out loud and how it is considered a wonderful heart warming romantic comedy by the majority of the community is way beyond me.

Let’s look at character number 1: The so called "Pretty Woman". A skid row prostitute who, for some reason, is as cheerful as can be. Understandably, she can get slightly wistful at times when thinking about how she wants to make something of her future. Still it seems like she and her flatmate seem pretty cheerful living out their days sharing bodily fluids with old smelly fat guys for now. And who wouldn't be really? (Note: I was going to get much more graphic on the practices of prostitutes with smelly fat guys in order to better illustrate that prostitution ain’t exactly a profession of choice, but I thought I'd keep it moderately clean).

Character number 2: An excessively rich, pathetic, personality-less, prat who likes to cruise skid row for sex whenever he heads out on a business trip. Wow ladies! What a catch!!! I'm sure that every prostitute out there, whilst in the process of unzipping some fat desperate pervert's fly, is thinking "Gee, I hope this guy is the one to sweep me off my feet and save me from my poor, albeit very happy, life as a hooker". Cause that's what happens in the real world.

Aaaah… Prostitution is there anything more romantic and comedic? Methinks not!!

Rating: HATE! (damn this binary rating system!!! Where's the "f#cking hate with all my heart and soul" rating??)
