The roots of the Jaggi family go far back into the 1500's in Switzerland, with the birth of Peter Jaggi in 1562. He lived in Feutersoey in the parish of Gsteig, Canton Bern. His son Martin Sr. was born in 1591, and Martin's son Martin Jr. in 1620. It was not until the next generation that the Jaggi families began to emigrate to Germany. The spelling of the family name then became Jacky in Germany.

Martin Jr.'s son Ulrich (1663-1741) emigrated to Fauen, Germany and by 1688 was the manager of the governmental compound there. Ulrich and wife Anna Catherine Schopfer had 12 children. One of his sons, Johann Valentine (1690-1747), moved to Schonau, Germany (close to Rumbach and Alsace) in 1727. He married Anna Marie Haury from Barenthal, Alsace and had the following children:

  * Johann Lorenz (1720) married 3 times (see below)
  * Johann Valentine (1724) married 3 times (see below)
  * Marie Mag. Charlotte (1727)
  * Marie Margaret (1730) married Johann Phillip Karcher
  * Johann Michael (1732) married Appolonia Neuhart
  * Marie Rosina (1736) never married
  * Caspar (1738) married Eva Margaret Pflug

Johann Valentine Sr's first son, Johann Lorenz (1720-1797) married 3 times and had 8 children. One of his sons, Valentine (1750-1785) (from the third marriage) was the father of Anna Marie Jacky who married Johann Christoph Schaub and traveled to Monroe Co. Ohio in the 1830's.

Johann Valentine Jacky's second son, Johann Valentine (1724-1799) married 3 times, and had 11 children. Some of his descendants became medical missionaries in Europe and South America.

Caspar (1738-1802), the youngest son of Johann Valentine, became a master gristmiller in Schonau. He and Eva Margaret Pflug and had 10 children:

  * Johann Jacob (1777) married Marie Dorothea Stempfel
  * Marie Elisabeth (1778) died young
  * Caspar Jr. (1781) married 1) Elis. Margaret Jacky
                                     2) Charlotte Jacky (her sister)
  * Caroline Charlotte(1784) married Adam Grubel
  * Eva Rosina (1786)
  * Catharine Barbara 1788) married David Neuhart
  * Catherine Margaret(1791) married Heinrich Jacob Loescher
  * Johann Valentine (1794)  died 1794
  * Lorenz (1795-1874) married Elisabeth Brubach
  * Christine Magd. (1797) married Henry Jacob Roos (Rose)

Three of Johann Valentine's children, Caspar Jr. (1781-1864), Lorenz (1795-1874), and Christine Magdalene (Roos/Rose) 1797-1863) emigrated to Monroe County, OH in 1831. Lorenz and wife Elizabeth Brubach had 13 children and lived on their farm in Monroe County for the rest of their lives. His brother Caspar married a cousin Elizabeth Margaret Jacky and when she died, he married her sister Charlotte Jacky. Caspar and Charlotte also lived in Monroe County until their deaths in 1864 and 1873. Many of their children moved on to Johnson and Woodbury Counties, IA and Wayne Co., IL. The next generation moved even further west, to Washington and Oregon.

The Jacky name went through yet another change in America, as Jacky became Yockey or Yocky (and various spellings).
