Mauanus is a city in Amozonia located at the intersection of the Rio Negro and the Amazon. We were able to view the Teatro from the boat we were taking to Encontro das Aguas. It is famous for its floating markets. The boats all dock at the main market loaded with fruits and vegetables. |

Manuas hit its peak during the rubber boom era. AT that time alot of money was coming into the city. Beautiful houses and buildings were constructed. Much of the supplies were brought to the city from abroad. Now that the city is seeing a decline the buildings are in need of repairs. While we were there the teatro was under restoration. The city continues to use the teatro for performances to help restore what is needed. |
Manaus has a military base located near the river. The military has opened a zoo. They charge a minimal fee to enter the zoo. Once inside you are able to room the zoo at your own freedom. There are many tropical animals to see. Some we had never seen before. |
Our time in Manaus was short. The rest of the time there we spent by the pool relaxing. The Tropical hotel has a nice size pool that also can become a wave pool. The kids had a wonderful time playing in the waves, jumping from the side of the pool and standing under the waterfall. |
