Steve grew up in Manchester, England and although his father wanted him to "get a real job" .. Steve had other ideas¡ [sound familiar or something¿ *L*] .. that being a drummer¡ Steve's been in a few bands before his time in Placebo .. having played with Tim Burgess in the Electric Crayons for a bit .. and featuring in the Mystic Deckchairs. At the age of 17 he joined Breed but put the band on the backseat after their Germany tour to hook up with the Boo Radleys on a temp basis .. @ the time Steve was also playing for K-klass. However his days with Breed came to an end after being together for 6 years, when they found the band wasnt going anywhere fast. But before becoming a musician, Steve worked as a joiner, was an apprentice building racing cars and worked in a music store in Northwich¡ He was even forced to get a job as a forklift truck driver due to no musical gigs on the horizon [after the breakup of Breed] and a pregnant girlfriend .. yup, he's father to a daughter¡ =) First got into the drums because he was asked by one of the kids at school. A self taught player his first gig was at a school assembly¡ He and Brian had met through Steve's girlfriend @ the time and Brian use to watch his band Breed play a lot. As Brian was then working on his musicial ambitions about the time they met .. the two would jam together and have the occasional gig. It was Steve who contributed to the initial Placebo demos but conflicting commitments prevented him from having a permanent place with Placebo @ the time. In 1996 Steve permanently re-joined Placebo after the departure of Robert Schultzberg. He was the first drummer Brian had in mind out of a possible three¡ With the introduction of Steve .. came a shift in the band's dynamics¡ .. oh he had his own thoughts and ideas music wise =) He had about 2 weeks to learn Placebo's self titled LP .. one and a half days rehersal before going on tour for four months in thirteen countries¡ *yiKes* |
