Wednesday December 3rd, 2003 Season's Greetings from redshift land (its December now, I can say that). Well, we're all being good little students these days and studying for our upcoming descent into hell...er...exams. All except Matt, he's not studying at all. Punk. However, we do have some news for you. Saturday, November 22nd Well, Thursday night's show at the AFB was probably the biggest joke this band has yet witnessed. I will be posting all the details in the journal section, but here's a quick run-down: Shaun Nixon is an irresponsible moron and a disgrace to local music everywhere. He fucked us out of a show, but more importantly, he screwed over a local bar trying to support the local scene and he screwed over nearly 20 bands that came from all over southern Ontario expecting to play. Apologies go out to anyone who payed to get into that show and not see us play as well as to those bands that came from out of town only to be screwed over by someone in our city. It wasn't our fault, but we feel for you and apologize on behalf of the moron in our city. Also, we'd like to send out a big redshift "fuck you" to Shaun Nixon. Thursday November 20th, 2003 Friends and neighbours, fans and enemies, fish and busicuits, Sunday November 16th, 2003 Thanks to everyone who came out to see us at the Student Band Night on Friday. It was a great show and we had an awful lot of fun playing. Thanks especially to Sian Evans and her crew for putting on a great show and just generally being cool people. Thanks also to the Campus Events staff for putting on a great show. Thursday November 13th, 2003 redshift will be appearing on the campus radio station for an interview and possibly a brief acoustic performance. Tune in to CFMU 93.3FM (or to listen online click here) between 6 pm and 8 pm on Friday November 14th, 2003 to hear some amusing and witty banter, or more accurately, to hear us stumble our way through a formal interview. Should be a laugh. Oh, and come to our show afterward: Monday November 10th, 2003 Well, after a series of somewhat unpleasant and/or nonexistent shows, we finally have something to be really excited about. We have a campus gig. We're playing Quarters this Friday. The last time we played there was our first gig ever at the battle of the bands in March. Needless to say, we are quite a lot different now than we were then. We have more songs, our playing has improved, we have a new bass player, we're sponsored by the Catholic Church and someone in the band has had cosmetic surgery. Can you guess who? So come on out and see us. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll get a complementary fruit basket and most importantly, this time someone really will open-mouth kiss someone else! Ohhhh yeeeaaah! So like I said, come out and see us and a bunch of other great McMaster bands. For those of you who haven't seen us in a while we have two new songs for you. So mark your calendars, call your friends. Hell, bring your pets, we like animals. They're tasty! And most importantly, come early and stay late. Its a Friday night, lets show some support for the local music scene. Hope to see you all there. Saturday, November 8th, 2003 Well, it was a bit of a sloppy gig but we loved it anyway. Thanks to the folks at AFB for giving us a place to play and for putting up with the rather terrible turn-out. Thanks to all the bands who played and thanks to the few people who were kind enough to stick around to see us. As for the lot of you that ducked out after the first band, fuck off. Its really not a whole lot to ask to have you stick around and support the local music scene, especially on a Friday night. Wankers. Monday, November 3rd, 2003 Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears. Coming soon! Crawling from the twisted wreckage of the November 2nd St. Catherines gig disaster, a show so spectacular you will wet yourself and possibly others in delight. Louder than Sarah McLaughlin! More talented than the kid next door! Able to play entire shows without falling down (okay, that last one is a lie). Its redshift! Yes, you heard me correctly, redshift has yet another gig. I know, we can't explain it either. This time we're broadening our venue horizons and playing at AFB ("Another Fucking Bar," formerly Home Night Club). Here are the details: Friday, November 7th 2003. So, if you're in the neighbourhood and looking for something to do this Friday, why not stop by? New songs will be played. New antics will be performed. And somebody will open-mouth kiss somebody else. Oooooh yeeeeeeeeah! Sunday, November 2nd, 2003 Well, in a particularily shitty turn of events, the gig last night got cancelled. Here's the story as we know it: basically, the owners of The Hideaway had a death in the family and decided to close up. However, in a stroke of sheer brilliance, they decided that it wasn't at all necessary to contact the promoter or any of the bands scheduled to play last night. So, assuming our show was still on, we drove all the bloody way to St. Catherines only to discover that there would be no sweet sweet music being made. So, disappointed, we turned around and dragged our sorry asses home. Hopefully things will be worked out and the show will be rescheduled. I'd hate to see a benefit show get canned because someone's too lazy to pick up a phone and let the promoter know what's going on. If we get any word, we'll let you know here. Sunday, October 19th, 2003 We have an upcoming show for you all to be excited about and generally orgasm over. November 2nd is the AIDS Niagara Concert at the Hideaway in St. Catherines. The line-up includes redshift, Melanie Mackenzie, Dead Only Better and A Day and a Death Wish. Doors for that show open at 7:00 and cover will be $5. Anybody who wants to make the trip down to St. Catherines to see us is cooler than the rest of you. We'll be playing new material and quite frankly, we're amazing, so you might as well be there. Tuesday, October 7th, 2003 Thanks a lot to everyone who came out to the show last night. We had a great time and we actually managed not to break anything this time around. Thanks again to Brody at the Underground for continuing to give us shows and thanks to the other bands (the Faunts, The Boston Post, Turn Off the Stars) for just generally being cool and coming out to play with us. So, in case you missed it the first seven times, thanks to everyone. In other website related stuff, the bio has been updated, the old news is now in the old news archives and there will be a great deal more pictures added to the site over the next little while, with the help of the wonderful, talented and unbelievably attractive Megan (we can't pay her, so we flatter her into helping us. Shhhhh). Check back every now and then to see how things are going. Andrew. Wednesday, October 1st 2003: redshift bids a fond farewell to Mike. Many thanks for the fun and music while on "tour." redshift also bids a fond Who-the-hell-are-you-and-why-are-you-in-my-basement? to Matt MacNeil. We're fairly sure he's the new bass player, but he just kinda showed up one day looking for free beer. On the bright side, he does seem to play bass. Well, he stands around and holds the bass and looks pretty, which is really all we ask. Welcome to the madness, Matt. |
