Sporadically Updated Ratings For Ranking AL Teams
By: BosoxBob - 6/24/02

SURFRAT is a power rankings report done by one of our regular posters (from San Diego) on the message board BosoxBob. This report will be updated at BosoxBob's leisure, as the title explains, updates will be sporadic.

An explanation of how the rankings are calculated can be found at the bottom of this page.

**One added feature this week: a projected record for the end of the season. This is based on a team's RPI, as well as those of remaining opponents. **

Red Sox

110-52

Manny should do wonders for this struggling bunch. Now, if only he could learn to play first base...

2

Y-----s

.686

47-28

110-52

2

Perhaps it's a good thing the Y-----s have retaken first place. Maybe now George won't push so hard to acquire Cliff Floyd.

3

Mariners

.676

46-28

108-54

3

M's have fended off the Angels for now, but the A's are fast approaching in the rear view mirror.

4

Angels

.612

43-29

97-65

4

Methinks these Angels are about to become fallen angels.

5

A's

.564

43-31

93-69

5

Do you suppose the Sox could hire the A's to play their interleague games for them? They are an unreal 14-1 this year.

6

Twins

.504

42-33

88-74

6

Twins should be getting some pitching (Mays, Radke) back before long, but it's hitting they need.

7

Orioles

.497

35-38

79-83

8

An admirable job this week going 3-3 on the road against the D'Backs and Giants.

8

White Sox

.477

36-39

82-80

7

Now is their chance to gain ground on the Twins. Are they up to the task?

9

Blue Jays

.427

30-42

68-94

9

Yet another team that managed go 3-3 on the road against the NL West.

10

Rangers

.427

32-41

66-96

11

What's this? The Rangers get good pitching this week? Oh yeah, that's right - they were only playing the Cubs and Pirates.

11

Indians

.395

35-40

69-93

10

Injuns are powerless without the DH, scoring a mere 9 runs in 6 games.

12

Royals

.335

26-46

58-104

12

The anti-A's: The Royals are 3-12 in interleague play.

13

Devil Rays

.321

24-49

50-112

13

How bad have the Sox done in interleague play? The DRays' 5-10 record beats the Sox' 4-11.

14

Tigers

.304

26-47

52-110

14

Tigers' rookie LHP Mike Maroth averaging 7 IP in 3 starts, with a 2.18 ERA. Why can't the Sox develop young pitchers like that?
