104-58

2

Y-----s starting to shift to cruise control, as their starting pitching solidifies and Weaver fills the void in the pen caused by Rivera's injury.

Sox announce a new corporate partner: "Rolaids, the official antacid of Red Sox fans." Rolls will be handed out to Fenway patrons as they enter.

You have to admire a team that plays smart fundamental baseball - too bad it's not our team.

4

A's

.619

80-51

98-64

5

A's have gone 16-3 (12 in a row) since I dissed them here three weeks ago. Wonder if that would work for the Sox?

M's are 2-8 in games in which Offerman gets an at-bat. Coincidence? I don't think so.

White Sox

.460

Frank Thomas' contract ($10M per thru 2006) and performance (.234 BA) puts the "Big Hurt" on any chances that this team will succeed in the future.

72-90

8

Eric Hinske is not only the frontrunner for Rookie of the Year, but leads all AL 3Bs with an .859 OPS.

10

Rangers

.448

10

Rangers, 12-9 so far in August, could cause havoc to other AL West teams' playoff hopes in September.

11

70-92

11

Indians thankful to see the A's and M's leave town, after being outscored 46-20.

12

53-78

66-96

Nice week for Raul Ibanez (1.229 OPS), one of the few bright spots on this team.

13

Tigers

.341

49-81

60-102

13

Talk about your up-and-down weeks - Jose Lima gets a win against the M's, giving up 1 run, then gets hammered by the A's to the tune of 11 runs.

14

Devil Rays

.323

43-87

51-111

14

Another year, another 100 losses. Ho-hum.

Teams are rated on three factors: average runs scored, average runs allowed, and winning percentage. Each of these is weighted by the team's strength of schedule, which is determined from the opponent's average winning percentage and their opponent's average winning percentage. The combination of the three weighted factors produces an overall rating.
