1

Mike Scioscia deserves manager of the year for getting such great play out of this group.

2

Y-----s

.644

89-53

104-58

3

Sure they're on their way to the AL East crown again. But they may have the weakest pitching staff of any of the playoff teams.

3

A's

.634

90-52

101-61

4

A's only lose one game all week, and yet they lose ground to the Angels.

4

Red Sox

.626

79-62

94-68

2

The Sox' playoff chances are as dead as Ted - with about as much chance of revival.

5

Mariners

.619

84-58

95-67

5

Trying desperately to keep pace in the ever-accelerating AL West race.

6

Twins

.547

82-61

94-68

6

If pitching and defense wins you games in the postseason, then this team will be a force to be reckoned with.

7

White Sox

.475

69-74

78-84

7

ChiSox making a last-ditch effort to finish above .500.

8

Rangers

.471

65-77

72-90

10

Rangers playing tough, partly due to a new and improved Carl Everett (.368/.444/.534/.978 since the start of August).

9

Blue Jays

.466

63-80

74-88

9

White men can't jump, but they can pitch. Former NBA player Mark Hendrickson has a 1.17 ERA in his 12 appearances since a rocky debut.

10

Orioles

.461

64-77

72-90

8

O's seem unable to deal with a third place finish, and are trying to fall to a more familiar fourth.

11

Indians

.417

64-78

72-90

11

Must be the uniform. Dave Burba has a 3.92 ERA with the Tribe after posting a 5.42 ERA with the Rangers.

12

Royals

.378

55-87

64-98

12

Stint against the A's and M's has mercifully come to a close, with the Royals dropping 9 of 11.

13

Tigers

.334

52-91

59-103

14

How bad is the Tigers' offense? Not a single regular has an OPS over .800.

14

Devil Rays

.332

48-94

53-109

13

Close, but no cigar. Looks like we'll be denied a Brian Kingman appearance as Tanyon Sturtze won't get enough starts to go for 20 losses.

Teams are rated on three factors: average runs scored, average runs allowed, and winning percentage. Each of these is weighted by the team's strength of schedule, which is determined from the opponent's average winning percentage and their opponent's average winning percentage. The combination of the three weighted factors produces an overall rating.
