Pedro wasn't spectacular, but he was very good, and plenty good enough to deserve the win. The story, as was the case many a time last year, was an inept offense. Like I said, it was only game one, so I guess we have to give a little leway. If this type of thing continues for a week or so, then we can get angry. Probably the biggest thing that sticks out about the game was Jimy's decision not to use Dante Bichette off the bench in place of Darren Lewis (who pinch ran for Manny Ramirez earlier in the game), in two critical at bats with runners in scoring position late in the game. In Jimy's defense, Lewis did end Spring Training on a torrid hot streak, so why not let the hot hitter bat? But then again, no matter how hot a guy like Lewis is, he'll never intimidate any pitcher. Bichette, no matter how cold, will always make a pitcher think twice before throwing a particular pitch. UGH! Game one, and we're already second guessing. It's way too early for me to be getting this tense, but then again, if we finish one game out of the playoffs, this could be looked at as one of those shoulda coulda woulda, games. |
