It was a win anyway

  • A win that would never have happened had it not been for David Segui and his double fault in the first inning. Somehow we managed to win probably the ugliest game of the year, hopefully when the schedule is said and done we can look back at this one and say thank you again to the Os for being just bad enough to lose this one.

Rolando Arrojo (2IP 3H 5R 2ER 4BB 2K): Can't really blame him for coming undone, when you don't know if your defense is going to do it's job and make the plays, how can you really expect to concentrate on what's going on? It was pretty obvious on Kerrigan's visit to the mound that he was trying to get Rolando to focus, but it didn't exactly work.

Tim Wakefield (5IP 1H 0R 0ER 1BB 6K W): Just when the bandwagon has almost emptied and all that are left are those on the RedSox2000.com message board, Wakefield once again shows how invaluable he is to this team. What a great way to bounce back, hopefully this game is what puts him back on track, and I hope it's contagious.

Nomar Garciaparra (2-5 2R RBI HR): Batting leadoff? Eh, as long as we win.

Another homerun binge: Lansing, Nomar, Mirabelli, Mad Carl, and Manny. Get hot guys, get real hot.

Rod Beck (1.2IP 4H 5R 1ER 1BB 2HR): Even a few days rest didn't do him any good, though he was out there for his second inning of work. Has Beck now become a situational guy too? One, maybe two hitters and out? Thank God for Wakefield.

Big thanks to the A's for staying hot and sweeping the Evil Empire over the weekend. Somehow amidst this poor play we managed to gain a game and a half on them and bring the deficit to 3. I've decided I want the division and only the division, to heck with the Wild Card. And we better get hot immediately, Seattle is coming to town for three while Tampa goes to New York, oh joy.
