Season sunk

  • Game, set, match. If you can't win two out of three at home against one of the bottom dwellers of your division, you are not a good team. Thirteen earned runs against the LIGHT hitting Orioles, absolutely pathetic. Perfect timing for us to play our worst ball, right in time for our toughest part of the schedule for the season. Starting tonight, four in Anaheim (we have yet to beat the Angels this year), then three in Texas (I'll be there for the first two), then thirteen in a row against the Indians and Y-----s.

Only by the schedule alone do we still have any shot at the playoffs, but with the way things are going, by the time we finish up the last game with New York on September 10th, we very well could be below .500 and hanging by threads to stay ahead of the Blue Jays. Sorry to be so glum, but right now, it's the realistic truth.

And if the injury to Manny is anything serious, forget it, might as well shut Pedro down for the season. We have enough trouble scoring runs with Manny, never-mind without.

Our only hope (if Manny is OK), is the return of Pedro (hopefully on the 26th), but we still have six games between now and then, and we also need to realize that Joe K will have Pedro on a very strict pitch count. So unless he has 2-3 low pitch innings he's only going to go 5-6 for the game. Meaning our pen, or rather, that thing out in the outfield, is going to have to pitch, and well, we know where that's been going for a while now.

Gasping for breath... Anyone have a life jacket?
