Brick wall

  • We knew going into this series that the pitching was going to be tough and unfortunately we were proven right after Mark Mulder threw a beauty. Things don't get any easier tonight as the Sox will square off against and even better hurler in Tim Hudson.

Brett Saberhagen (4IP 7H 3R 3ER 0BB 5K L): Didn't realize it at the time but as Sabes was striking out four straight batters, after allowing a lead-off single in the first, it was probably the worst thing he could have done. Allot of Ks means a high pitch count and a high count for Sabes means an early tiring and trip from Captain Quick Hook. Though a 12-pitch at bat from the likes of Frank Menechino doesn't help either.

Rod Beck (1IP 3H 2R 2ER 0BB 2K): Maybe we should come up with a phantom injury for Beck. It's seems that's going to be the only way Jimy allows him to rest, and he needs one bad.

  • It has been confirmed that Hideo Nomo will miss his next scheduled start (no DL) and Frank Castillo has been held back from his rehab stint today and will instead be out on the mound tonight. Not that we have much else to go to, but what a bad time for Castillo to be inserted. He's only thrown 60 pitches in his other rehab start and now he's being thrown into the fire against the hottest team in the game. At the absolute most I expect Castillo to go 5, more like 4 if we're being realistic though.

Like the pen hasn't been taxed enough and now this. The bats need to come up with some big support, no easy task against Hudson.

  • The only good news on the day was that it looks like 'The Power of the Green Monster' worked yesterday (read board), as the D-Rays upended Mussina and the Empire 3-2. Highly doubtful we can get another from TB, so it makes these next two with Oakland all the more important.
