Opportunity

  • If you're going to beat a guy like Tim Hudson you need him throwing exactly the way he was last night. We had opportunity after opportunity after opportunity to score and got zilch out of it. Whether it be the lack of a big hit or an inning killing double play, the Sox did nothing to help out Frank Castillo at all.

Frank Castillo (4.1IP 7H 5R 4ER 2BB 4K L): Considering he just came off the DL and wasn't even able to finish his rehab, I'd say that Castillo did pretty well. For the most part he kept the team in the game for his 4+ innings. I doubt anyone expected him to go any further than that.

Casey Fossum (3.2IP 2H 1R 1ER 3BB 3K): Pretty good job turned in by the rookie left-hander. The walk total was a bit high but only one run over almost four innings looks pretty good to me. Especially with the way the pen has been of late.

Other than some decent pitching last night there's not much else to mention. I really hate it when I stay up late and get treated to a frustrating game like that. It's not 'must win' time yet but we really need to take this game tonight. As expected the D-Rays could not help us out two nights in a row as they were spanked 16-1 by the Evil Empire.

Tonight the Sox get another of the A's very good young pitchers in lefty Barry Zito. Of the 'big three' they have, I'd say Zito is the most beatable or least intimidating, but then again we do have our lefty woes to worry about.

Cone goes for the Sox I believe, yet again we need him to come up with a big start.

  • Injury Updates: For those who didn't know Brett Saberhagen was placed back on the DL yesterday to make way for Castillo to be activated. Supposedly it's a completely different muscle than from his past injuries and is not considered 'career threatening' as it was being put.

Jason Varitek took a small step back in his comeback quest yesterday. The Sox have had to shut him down slightly as he is experiencing pain in the elbow he broke. The cause is just trying to do too much too soon, nothing serious or a re-injury, just soreness.

I'll call it quits there, and there's no way I'm staying up until 2:00am three nights in a row and not get one win out of it. Just win damn it!
