Thanks Marlins

  • For keeping our deficit at 1 and 1/2 games behind the Evil Empire. As I checked the message board for the last time yesterday there was a response to my '11 for the road' post from ekanenh that pretty much agreed with me that this road trip isn't as 'scary' as some think it seems, but that last night's pitcher for the Mets, Leiter, did scare him.

I guess the fears were not unfounded because we never really got anything going against him last night. We can't expect Wakes to be perfect but if we could have thrown out the third inning, when he was floating it high, who knows what might have happened.

My viewing was limited to the radio last night due to the fact that my 'free' cable was disconnected on Wednesday and they can't reconnect me until tomorrow. Eh, it was great while it lasted (never got shut off from the people who moved out). So with only the radio and since I was busy setting up my Sox shrine in the new home, I missed much of what happened in the game, so there's not really much I can think to directly point out.

It was good to see (hear) that the pen started off the second half strong. Yes, it was only two of them (Pulsipher and Pichardo) but they both did their job for the time they were in, and quite well at that.

  • As I mentioned in the headline a big thanks to the Marlins for ripping Mussina a new one and keeping the deficit where it is for the time being. Florida hit up Mikey Boy for 8 earned runs over the first two innings on the way to a 9-3 win.

ESPN.com has Cone listed as the starter for tonight against Kevin Appier. In the past Appier has been kind of weird against the Sox. From a grand slam in the first inning to Manny Alexander last year while with the A's to shutouts while with KC. Lets hope the former comes out to the mound tonight.

  • Now for the really bad news. From what I heard on the radio on my ride in this morning, it looks like Pedro will be out for another 4-6 weeks. Sounds to me that the Sox front office has done another great job of jerking us around and not letting us (the fans) know what's going on. I Haven't checked yet but I'm sure I'll find a couple of articles about it today for the newspaper links area, I'll leave it to them to explain the situation.
