Holy Cone!

  • Who'd have ever thought that Cone would come back this big for us? I don't care if he tanks the rest of the way (God please no!) he's already far passed any expectations I had for him. My still cable-less home prevented me from seeing this gem (I had softball too), but did he come up with a huge start or what?

David Cone (5.2IP 3H 0R 0ER 3BB 6K W) As long as Pedro is on the DL, every time a starter comes away with a great performace it's a big win. Cone mentioned in a post game interview that he really wants to be able to go deeper into the game (not knocking Jimy, more him not being quite as durable anymore). Hey Coney, if you can give us 5-6 shutout innings each time out, i'll kiss your former pinstriped feet.

El Guapo (1.1IP 0H 0ER 0R 1BB 1K) Great to see Guapo back on the staff. He needs to stay healthy becasue he was sorley missed during his DL stint. Just lay off the ribs for a month dude!

Nothing big to mention on the offensive front, we got enought to win that's simpy it.

I haven't seen whoes sheduled to go tomorrow, but I expect it'll be Nomo up against Rick Reed. Really need Nomo to pitch well so we can leave New York with two of three before heading to Montreal.

Looks like the reworked rotation until Pedro gets back is Wakes, Cone, Nomo, Arrojo, Ohka (or insert pitcher). Who'd of figured in April that to start the 2nd half, Wakes would be the ace followed by Cone in the #2 slot? Where in the rotation you're placed really makes no difference, each of the top four on any given night can be flat out nasty. They all know that they need to step it up a notch while Pedro is out and they also have a shot in the arm coming soon to help in the form of Nomahhhhhh!

More good news out of the other side of NY as well. The Marlins put another beat down on the Y---s, winning 11-1 while slapping around Ted Lilly, Ramiro Mendoza, and newly aquired Jay Witasick. Would it be too much to ask the Marlins for a three game sweep? Nah! Go Fish!
