Had we lost that game...

  • ...well, lets not think about that. We had ample opportunity to put it away and cruse to a win. Instead, it was crazy double play night and we scathed by with Derek Lowe falling further into a funk but not quite losing it yet. They say you play down to the level of your opponent, maybe that's what's going on here, but if not, I'm glad our schedule calls for some not so great teams to start things off here in the 2nd half.

Tomo Ohka (5IP 4H 3R 3ER 1BB 4K): An improvement over his last couple of starts and probably earned himself another start or two until Sabes is ready (big if), but he still just doesn't seem to be putting it together. I didn't realize it but going back to his last few games at Pawtucket and his first two starts back with the Sox, he's 0-8 in his last 8 decisions. Not good.

Manny Ramirez (0-4 2DPs): Probably the worst night I've seen Manny have since arriving in Boston. He needs to get kick-started in a big way and soon.

Bottom third of order: When the top doesn't get it done, all you have is the bottom of the order to hold you afloat. The trio of Daubach, Stynes, and Lansing did exactly that going a combined 5-9 with 5 RBIs. Lansing seems to be enjoying his return to Montreal, the only place he's ever been successful, and Stynes and Dauber continue to come up big while others are down.

Anyone realize how much Bichette has cooled down since his torrid June? Going into last night he was 2 for his last 22. Ouch!

Derek Lowe (1.1IP 2H 1R 1ER 2BB S): He's getting ever so close to giving us a heartbreaking loss and sending things into a tailspin. I don't know what the problem is, but it needs to be addressed immediately. Lowe hasn't looked good in his last 4-5 appearances in a row, and the last two have been against a team that should be no problem (save Vlady).

But I guess I should give credit to the team for winning in the end instead of folding up when Montreal took the lead in the middle of the game. The 2000 Red Sox lose that game, the offense would not have come back to win, but the 2001 Sox can and did. That does speak for something.

Philly tried but couldn't help us out a second night in a row, so our deficit remains at a 1/2 game behind the Evil Ones. Tim Wakefield will close the series tonight as the Sox attempt a sweep of the three game set.

After losing two of three in New York a sweep here in Montreal is much needed especially with the competition coming up getting a bit stiffer in the form of Toronto and Chicago.
