Help Wanted

  • That's the sign posted outside of the Sox bullpen right now. Yes, I know we got burned twice by two awful calls from the umps, had they gone our way, there was a very good possibility that we would have scored enough to win. But it does not excuse the fact that the pitching was absolutely awful, probably the worst we've seen all season.

Tim Wakefield (5IP 7H 6R 5ER 5BB 3K 1HR L): Amazing how a two-out walk can turn into a huge mess. That's what happened, a walk with two out in the second and the next thing you know the Spos have put 5 runs on the board. Easily Wakes worst appearance of the year and that makes two not so great starts in a row. The nature of the knuckler folks.

Brice Florie (0.1IP 2H 3R 3ER 1BB): It's a nice story, but Florie has NEVER been any good. He does not belong on the roster plain and simple. Go join Schourek buddy and don't come back.

Hipolito Pichardo (1IP 3H 1R 1ER 1K): Still looking real bad out there and could have been hit up for more than he allowed in his one inning last night. We're in dire need of another arm in the pen or at the very least for someone to step it up a notch and take the load.

Last night also proved how overrated is the home run. You'd figure without knowing the score, if a team out hit there opponent 16-13 and out homered them 3-2, they probably would have won. Nope, with all three dingers coming with the bases empty they helped as little as they possibly could. Not blaming the O for anything here, seven runs should be ample for our staff to nail down a win, just trying to make a point. The guy who comes thru with twenty 2-run singles is sometimes more valuable that the guy who hits 30 homers.

We're 3-3 since the break, but why do I feel like we're in a free fall? We can still accomplish an acceptable to very good record for the long trip, but for some reason I'm just completely unsatisfied. Maybe it's because the Phills simply can't close the door when it counts or maybe it's because we're finally feeling the effects of all the injuries we've accumulated.

Either way, things need to get moving in the right direction. Who'd of though that the most confidence we have in a starter at this point in the season is tonight's hurler, David Cone? We need another big stop out of him and we need some help from the Tigers as well. Eh, I guess I'll just ask for Cone to do the job tonight, we know Detroit won't/can't.
