Trot Nixon
...and the team that will not go away

  • Just when I think the dive is right around the corner, just when it looks like the fall is about to begin, these guys find a way to pull one out. Since the injury to Carl Everett, Trot Nixon has basically picked up this team (all 40 of them) and placed them on his back. I know he doesn't win them all by himself, but if you were to take him out of the line-up during Carl's injury, we lose, plain and simple.

Trot Nixon (3-5 2RBI 2-2B): What else can we ask of him? He comes thru with two outs in the seventh to tie it and then does it again with two down in the ninth. At this juncture in the season, Trot is priceless.

David Cone (6IP 8H 4R 3ER 1BB 5K 1HR): We've seen him pitch better, but once again he kept us within striking distance and the Sox are now 9-1 in games he has started (if I am not mistaken). Pretty good for a guy I wanted no part of to start the spring.

Guapo and Lowe (3IP 0H 0R OER 1BB 2K W S): Guapo has been great since returning from the DL and finally Lowe has himself a 1-2-3 inning. Both looked real sharp and when you don't allow a hit for the last three innings there's really nothing anyone can do to beat you.

As I've said recently, Lowe has been shaky but getting it done, if barely. Guapo and Beck, the rest of the foundation in the pen, have been doing well since the break as well, it's the rest of the pen that has really stunk up the joint. The solution? Either someone else step it up out there, we get another starter healthy (Pedro or Castillo), or we make a deal that will get us another good arm. Take your pick.

Arrojo tonight against a pitcher TBA by Toronto. A two game sweep would be nice as we head to the last leg of this four-city trip in Chicago.

  • I didn't realize that NY had a double header last night against Detroit. Rogah was an emergency starter for game one (3 days rest) because El Duquecito (sp?) came up ill. Clemwad was effected as he allowed 5 runs over 5 1/3 innings, but it was Detroit and all, and the Evil Ones grabbed the first one 8-5.

Knowing the above and with the Sox down 4-1 early in the game it looked like it was going to be a long night. But then Trot saved the day and in game two the Tigers put the beat down on The Empire and took the second one 12-4.

After tonight the Jays will head to NY for three with the pinstripe people. Hopefully after we take the second and final of this series, they'll be up for taking some frustrations out in NY.
