Blown save? What blown save?

  • That's the feeling I got from the team while watching the game last night. It was like Thursday never happened and it was time to worry about the game at hand. I stated yesterday that this first one with the Chi-Sox was a must win situation, and I still think it was. This team is just so damn resilient. Actually I don't think resilient is the correct word, but for lack of a better one, they just won't die. Kind of like the Cow in the movie 'Me, Myself, and Ireene'. He kept on shooting the damn thing but it just would not be put down. Kind of like our Sox of 2001. You can injure the best hitter in the game, we will not die. You can injure the best pitcher in the game, we will not die. You can injure our catcher, center fielder, and a couple other starters, we will not die. Heck, you can even steal a few games from underneath us, and WE! WILL! NOT! DIE!

I simply can't describe it any other way. On paper with all the injuries and merry-go-rounds at particular positions this team isn't much to look at. But luckily this game isn't played on paper, it's done between the lines, and we're getting it done (for the most part).

Hideo Nomo (6IP 6H 2R 2ER 6BB 7K 2HR W): With the six walks and two dingers Nomo's line could have been allot worse. It's all about timing, the two homers were solo shots, minimal damage done. Three of the six walks came to start off an inning, but a nicely placed double-play ball and a pop-up spells NO RUNS FOR YOU! It's all about timing. Who'd have thought that Nomo would lead the team in wins at this point in the season?

Manny Ramirez (3-4 2R 4RBI 2B 2HR): Please tell me you're heating up again? Please oh please!

El Guapo (2IP 3H 0R 0ER 0BB 4K): It Guapo the man or what? Easily the best arm in the pen right now. Stay healthy Guapo, how about a turkey burger?

  • I'm thinking right now, because I'm in a good mood, that maybe Thursday's loss was a blessing in disguise. Maybe it was enough to pump up the Jays and get them on a roll as they headed to New York for a three game series with the Evil Empire. If that was the case it worked yesterday in the form of a 10-4 win over the Y---s.

Yep, that means, as my co-worker Dave says, we can do the first place dance now. Woo Hoo! First time we've been in first this deep into the season since the last day of the 1995 season.

Still allot of ball to go, but with the way we're playing without our all-stars, just imagine what it will be like when Nomar is back in a week or so, or when Pedro returns late August/early September. Oh, and I also heard that Pete Schourek threw on the side yesterday. You may say, 'big deal, I was hoping he wouldn't recover'. Well, it's not so much that Schourek threw, it's that Mr. Tek, our catcher, was behind the plate for his throwing session. Encouraging news all around today, now it's time to put some distance between us and you know who.

    Go Blue Jays!

    Just win DAMN IT!
