I wouldn't take that bet

  • The bet which premise says the Sox will win 2 of 3 or 3 of 4 in a series but the one they loose will be the one Pedro pitches. So far it's happened twice this season (1st was Yankee series) and I have a sinking feeling it will happen again, yet I doubt anyone will put their house on it.

As far as a possible injury goes the Globe reports today (link above) that Sox team Doctor, Arthur Papas, says there is no injury to Pedro. But basically we have to take that comment with a grain of salt as there's no way to Sox would admit to anything unless Pedro was headed to the DL. So I guess no news is good news in this respect.

  • As for yesterday's game the cards were really stacked against us and I had pretty much zero confidence that we'd actually pull that one out. Nomar's out, Varitek's out, news of a possible injury to Pedro was being rumored, and before yesterday's game Manny Ramirez fell ill (possible streap throat) and had to be removed from the line-up. With all that stacked against us I figured it would be a very long day.

But the troops came thru and were able to scrape out a 5-4 victory and take the series from Philly. You know there really are allot of obnoxious Philly fans, at least there were on Saturday at the game. Without a doubt they were far worse than any episode I've seen from Y----- fans this year. Anyway, the game...

There really wasn't one single guy you could point out who won this game, five different Sox had RBIs, so no one guy was doing all the work, though Bichette came thru big in Manny's absence with a 3-4 day. It really was a full team effort to get this one done, from Nomo's good six innings, to Everett, O'Leary, and Daubach getting the big two-out hits in the sixth to take the lead that would not be relinquished.

The Braves did us a favor as well, taking two of three from the 'Evil Ones' and somehow getting our hold on 1st back to two games. As much as we've been frustrated with allot of things that have gone on thus far this year, being up by two games is nothing short of amazing. Need to keep scratching and clawing and get some guys on the mend.

No game tonight (which gives me some extra time to get the Weekly Stats section updated) as the Marlins come to town tomorrow. Hopefully our dominance over Florida teams (D-Rays) continues. Frank Castillo will take the hill to start the series on Tuesday.
