Well, you can be sure it hasn't been the hitting blazing a trail for the team to follow. It's been solid pitching all they way and it's going to have to keep up if where to hope to stay afloat until our team gets back in shape. Frank Castillo (5IP 6H 0R 0ER 1BB 4K W): Yet another solid performance from this guy. I held little hope out for him before the season started. I had him penciled in as the #4 or 5 guy and prayed that he'd pitch .500 ball. It's still early and anything could happen but right now I actually get somewhat excited when Castillo takes the hill because I know it will be well pitched. Actually it's getting that way for the whole staff lately. Pedro is Pedro, Wakefield has been nearly as untouchable, Nomo (when the splitter is working) is unhittable, and Cone, well lets not get carried away, but his last start was very good. Troy O'Leary (1-4 R 2RBI HR): Slowly picking it back up at the plate, very slowly, but he did have a big blow last night and it came with two outs. Still, Troy has been leaving waay too many runners on base, in one game last week he was responsible for leaving seven by himself. I know I've said this before, but hopefully this will be the start of something for him. Trot Nixon (2-3 2R RBI 2B HR SB): Quite a night for Trot as well. Since June 1 (10 games) Trot is 10-34 (.294) 6R 7RBI 2HR 2SB & 6BB. Definitely a good sign, Trot has been one of the many Sox hitters we've been waiting to come around. Maybe this is what we've been waiting for. Pete Schourek (0IP 1H): Over his last 2 innings pitched Schourek has allowed 6 hits, a walk, and just about every runner inherited to score. He's awful against righties and has been even worse against lefties, so much for the lefty specialist role. Sang Lee, down in AAA, couldn't be much worse. To further the amazement, last night the baseball Gods even shunned the 'Evil Ones'. Not only did the Y-----s lose to the Expos (of all teams) at home, they lost on a horrible call by the umpire. First off, Rivera blew it in the ninth (1-0 lead), solo job by a nobody. Then in the 12th, another nobody hit a homer down the leftfield line that was definitely foul. The replay shows by a good 6-8 inches. But the ump called it fair and now the Sox lead in the East is three. Pedro Who? Manny Who? Nomar Who? Tek Who? Yeah right. |
