Bound to happen

  • As the cliche goes, all good things must come to an end. The good thing in this case being the Sox eleven game wining streak against the D-Rays. We had chances with the bats to put more on the board, but with our staff, seven runs should have been enough.

Unfortunately of late it has been an injury riddled overused staff that hasn't been getting it done. There is a great rant over on the message board by JustOnceB4IDie about the state of the staff, it's a great read. Click here to see it.

Pete Schourek (0.1IP 2H 1R 1ER L): I said as much after the game on the message board, Shourek is a waste of skin. This line is getting all too familiar and it's against the guys he's 'supposed' to be getting out. Jimy brings him in solely for the purpose of having a lefty/lefty match-up, and time after time he gets crushed. He faced two lefties to begin the 8th yesterday and the result was a double, single, and the go ahead run. Shourek is 1-5, time to stop the bleeding Duke.

Trot Nixon (3-4 2R 3RBI HR): Trotter is hot and needs to stay that way for a few weeks. With the staff fumbling we're going to need the extra runs and then some.

The Cincinnati due of Chris Stynes (1-4 R 2RBI 2B) and Dante Bichette (2-5 R RBI 2-2B) have also been getting is done of late. At the beginning of the year the pitching carried us (and Manny), now it's the O's turn to do their part. I'd rather have both going on all cylinders but I'll take one if that's all we can get.

Carl Everett This is six games without him, if the knee is that bad put him on the DL and get someone else up here that can help. Sometimes I really don't understand what the heck Jimy and DD are doing.

Why do I feel like I'm in panic mode, when there's a whole second half of baseball to play? I know allot has gone wrong with the injuries, maybe we're just expecting too much. At the beginning of the year if you told me that Nomar wouldn't play till August, Varitek would go down for three months, Pedro would make his normal trip to the DL, and Lowe would start the first two month absolutely horrifically, I probably would have buried myself in a hole for the year.

Somehow this team has stayed afloat anyway, and then some. All I ask is .500 ball for the next two weeks (until the ASB) and then we can all brace for the stretch run.
