Oh the carnage!
Arrojo making me look silly

  • Seems like everyday thus far this spring i've come on here to do my daily update and have had to say something to the effect of:   'it's still early', 'spring training is meaningless', or 'some guys take a little while to get it going'. Though all of that still holds true, this Spring Training has flat out sucked so far.

In terms of wins and losses, i'm not in the least affected. We could go 2-28, or 30-0, I could care less. It's the good/bad performances that I look for, and so far Rolando Arrojo (who I have very vocally supported so far this offseason) has been stinking up the joint big time.

If you take a look at the boxscore you'll see that Rolando got himself shalacked again, throwing two innings while giving up 6 hits, 6 ER, BB, and two more dingers.

Now there does come a point where you have to say "It's still early" or "He's got nothing", and Arrojo is getting dangeroulsy close to the latter. Thus far theres been no improvement and in this game i'd say he regressed a bit.

Maybe it is still early, maybe the trade rumors swirling around that involve him are distracting, maybe he just isn't working hard enough (has been accused of this by Jimy and Joe), or maybe he just doesn't have it anymore. Whatever the reason may be, Arrojo at this point has opened the door for long shots, Tim Wakefield and Tomo Ohka, to make the rotation.

    Bats have been silent

  • This isn't as much of a concern as the pitching. We have to realize that the lineups that are being sent out there are not the same ones we're going to see during the season. Four or five rookies sandwiched around Manny, Carl, and Bichette are not expected to get it done. So even though we'd like to see a bit more punch at this point, how and if the guys are hitting the ball, are much more important than if they fall in.
