Return of the Pedro!

  • Wow! That's really the only thing I can say to describe Pedro's return to the mound yesterday. The team has a six month lay-off, Pedro reports a couple of days late (with permission), he finally pitches for the first time this spring, and goes out there like he's in mid-season form. Unbelievable.

A quick look at the numbers, 4IP 0H 0ER 1BB and 7Ks. What more could we possibly ask for? Just when things looked like they couldn't get any worse this spring, Pedro saves the day.

As for the rest of the game, ugh! The offense remained anemic and the relief continues to get shalacked. The only pitcher of note after Pedro was Hipolito Pichardo, who allowed 3H and 3ER in 1 and 1/3 innings. Obviously we can't expect everyone to be Pedro (not even close), but we have to do better than this. El Guapo also made an appearance, throwing two innings and allowing only one hit.

Thursday marks the mid-point for the Spring Training schedule, from that point on we should see the line-up mold into shape a bit, and we should also expect a little more out of the pitching, who most have now been in camp for over a month.

Good news on Nomar, Kind of...

  • Nomar had his wrist examined again yesterday and the results were good. When the cast he was wearing was removed the swelling in his wrist was down. That's the good news, going out and playing and possibly agrivating the wrist is something entirely different.

After the examination a new cast was put on the wrist and hopefully Nomar will be ready to go in another week or so. When asked how long it would take for Nomar get ready if he were cleared, Jimy said about 10 days.

Who knows what this means? It's definetly good news that the swelling is down, but until Nomar tries to use the wrist, i'm still a bit on the worried side. One encouraging note to mention though (heard this one on WEEI yesterday). I guess a Champion Boxer, whoes name escapes me at the moment (won olympic gold eight years ago), also suffered from this exact same injury. The treatment? Rest.

Now I probably know less about boxing than anyone on the planet, but I think I can pretty confidently say that in boxing the wrists are put under tremendous stress. If this boxer was able to return to the ring after rest and no surgery, I think things are looking good for Nomar.
