The poundings keep coming
Cone leaves with injury

  • The bats came alive a little, but it wasn't enough to prevent the Sox from dropping two more games yesterday. In the first game (boxscore can be found in the spring boxes section) of the day the runs were put up, but the pen was destroyed yet again. But again, fortunately, it was predominantly guys who are going to see themselves in AA and AAA to start the year.

The real news of the game was David Cone's premature departure with a sore arm after 30 or so pitches. The latest ESPN report (11:30pm EST) has Cone stating he doesn't feel it is anything serious. I guess we can only wait and see on that account. The only other notables in game one were Manny Ramirez finally going yard in a Sox uni and Troy O'Leary's continued assault on the baseball, as he launched homer #3 for the spring.

  • The second game (boxscore below) featured more of the same. Tim Wakefield was finally touched up as he allowed 3ER on 3H in his 3 innings of work, and also allowed two homers while striking out four. The rest of the runs were allowed by the soon to be minor league Red Sox.

A poor start by Wakes coupled with an offense of predominantly non-regulars spelled the Sox 12th spring loss and 8th in a row. As much as I say it's all meaningless, it still sucks. C'mon guys, lets get something going!
