Almost there

  • OK folks, we're coming down the wire here, one more meaningless game to go and then it's time for baseball. I have alot planned for when the season gets going, and i've been busy putting the final touches on it. So you're getting a cheezy update today, and possibly another for Saturday in Milwaukee. But after that, it's go time.

I will however, have a spring breakdown with Saturday night's update, so stay tuned for that. Also, I want to appologize for the lack of an update on Friday (3/30), unforseen server problems were the cause. Hopefully it will not happen again.

One last note, i'm looking for anyone interested in doing game recaps during the season. There will be times that I will be caught up in other areas of the site, and it's usually the recaps that get the short end of the stick. I'll explain what i'm looking for in more detail for anyone who contacts me via email.

  • ESPN.com: HOUSTON (AP) - Craig Biggio, returning from a serious knee injury, was 4-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI in the Houston Astros' 8-5 exhibition victory over Boston on Friday night.

Biggio almost had a third double in his last at-bat, but was thrown out at second base trying to extend his single.

Boston's Carl Everett, suspended for Thursday's game and fined $97,222 for missing a team bus and skipping a workout, went 1-for-4. He had an RBI double in the third inning.

Houston starter Tony McKnight (1-0) pitched five innings, allowed eight hits, four earned runs, struck out five and didn't allow a walk for the victory. Billy Wagner, returning from an elbow injury, got his third save.

Boston starter Hideo Nomo (0-3) pitched four innings and allowed eight hits and three earned runs. He struck out four and walked four, including two to start the fifth inning before he was relieved by Rolando Arrojo with the Red Sox ahead 4-3.

Arrojo got his first batter, Chris Truby, on a fly out, but a grounder by Tony Eusebio, sacrifice fly by Glen Barker and single by pinch-hitter Orlando Merced produced three runs and a 6-4 Houston lead.
