Arrojo to be traded to the Evil Empire? It was very interesting day both on and off the field for the Sox. As I write this at 10:16pm on Tuesday with the snow still falling outside, i'm at a loss for words.
Let me get the game notes out of the way first. We were treated to pretty much more of the same in yesterday's game. The starting pitching was awful, the defense worse, and the offense impotent. Did I miss anything? Am I getting worried? Hardly. Frustrated? Nah. Sick of being out played just about every game thus far this spring? Yup.
Nothing of major significance to point out in this one, the boxscore speaks for itself. We need to play better! Thank you master of the obvious!
Now onto the more interesting stuff. I thought I heard it wrong at first when I was listening to WEEI over the internet at work. So I turned the speaker up a bit, and nope, I heard it correctly. The starting short stop was Mike Lansing. Furthermore, on my ride home, the comentators proceded to say that Lansing has been announced as the official backup to Nomar if he doesn't return on time. What? Lansing? Are you kidding me? I'm not even going to waste my breath on a rant here, i'm just going to pray that Nomar comes back ready to go, and we can forget about the thought, never mind the actual act.
Another interesting tidbit poped up on WEEI as well. I guess a 'reputable source' on ESPN.com hinted that the Sox were in talks with the Mariners and Y------s to work out a three way deal that involved Rolando Arrojo goint to New York. They didn't say who the Sox might be getting in this deal (my guess is Brett Tomko) and I think they said the source was Peter Gammons. But I couldn't find this 'hint' anywhere on ESPN's site and i'm really not sure if they said it was Gammons who said it or not. So take this with a grain of salt.
My reaction? I can't believe that DD would consider making a trade with the Evil Empire. Nevermind the Y----- Hatred factor. Their our direct competitior in the Al East! You damn well know that if this happens, Arrojo is going to have a stellar year for the Y---s. I guess A Y----- rep said that they are looking for a replacement for the departed Jeff Nelson, and they think Arrojo would fit in nicely.
I really don't see this thing happening, so i'm not going to dwell on it very much. But just the thought is driving me nuts.
