Cone looks good, pen looks bad

  • This is going to a very light recap today as it's 12:00am and I just sat down to do the update. I had my annual Strat-O-Matic Baseball draft tonight and at the moment all I can think about is bed.

Anyway, shall we? David Cone took the mound yesterday in what was a pivitol start for him. The Sox have a decision to make coming up in a week on whether to keep him around for the rest of camp or not. The team has until March 16th to decide on whether to keep him around, which will cost 1 mil if they do.

Cone made a push to make that decision easier as he pitched three solid innings in the 9-8 loss to the Pirates. He allowed 3 hits and a run in his stint, a huge improvent over his previous. He'll probably see 1-2 more starts before the decision is made, a step in the right direction was made in this start.

As for the rest of the game, the boxscore tells the story. We're getting the O, but the pen is stinking up the joint. Again it was the guys who are going to see themsleves in the minors come the end of camp who were getting thrashed around, as Jesus Pena and Brian Williams were the ones who choked this one up with 6 earned runs combined over the 8th and 9th inning.

Sorry for the lackluster report, but i'm beat.
