What a weekend

  • Plenty to get to and I don't have a ton of time to do it. I was going to start this off with a few words about Friday night, I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about. I was there and to say the least it really stunk. But it's in the past and I'm going to let it alone (probably because after that the weekend got allot better).

Was that actually nine runs the Sox got for Pedro on Saturday?

Enough of that, onto yesterday's great win.

The rotation: First and foremost we don't have to wonder who is going to get the axe in the rotation (Ohka or Crawford) because yesterday both were optioned to Pawtucket. Jimy has announced that Tim Wakefield will rejoin the rotation on Wednesday, David Cone will be activated and start on Thursday, and Hipolito Pichardo is back in the Sox pen. Like I said before, I'm all for letting those two get their lumps to see what their really made of, but how long do you let it go on for when your going for the title? They'll both be back before the end of the year, you can count on that.

Manny Ramirez: I'm not going to elaborate much on this one, I don't want to jinx him, but can you say Mr. Clutch.

Derek Lowe: Great to see Lowe getting things together he came up very big late in the game yesterday. What a gutsy pitch with the bases juiced in the 10th, 2-outs, and a full count. I haven't heard 'official' word but I think Lowe is back in the closers spot.

Jason Varitek: Each time he came up yesterday I would say to myself: "The still homerless Jason Varitek." It was bound to happen eventually and it couldn't have come at a better time. I like to think I may have had a little hand in it.

The weekly stats section will either be updated later today or for tomorrow. With no game tonight it gives me a little leeway in getting the numbers up before the new week starts. Off to Minnesota, Kansas City, and New York for the next nine. I'd like to get 6-3 out of this one but 5-4 is doable as well.
