Opportunity

  • This season is eerily starting to turn into last year. The Y-----s have lost four in a row and we have gained virtually zero ground. We can't expect their staff to stay bad much longer. The hitting may stay weak, much like ours has been, but this is the time to take advantage and we're not doing it.

I understand why Jimy put the line-up out there that he did yesterday in terms of personnel, but Scott Hatteberg batting second? Jimy! I felt like we were giving that game away.

David Cone: Wasn't as bad as I thought he'd be, but I think that was mostly because he couldn't find the strike zone. The balls that were hit, were hit very hard. I guess I'll cut him a little slack since this was his first start in a long time and it was against one of the best teams in baseball. But I wasn't impressed at all.

Rolando Arrojo: I can't figure this guy out. He comes into the fourth in a very desperate situation. Men on 1st and 2nd, nobody out, and he get himself and the team out of it nicely with zero damage done. Then the next inning he falls apart. I don't get it.

Manny Ramirez: Keep Rollin' Rollin' Rollin' Rollin'

Trot Nixon: I don't know about anyone else, but I think Trot has been nicely shadowed by Troy O'Leary struggles. The honeymoon is far past over and Trot still isn't doing it. He's another guy who needs to get it going, otherwise, great glove or not, we need another run producer.

Shea Hillenbrand: Here's a scary stat. Over his last 11 at bats Shea has seen 19 pitches.

Like I said earlier, I understand why Jimy sat out allot of the regulars yesterday, but it doesn't mean I have to like it and my biggest gripe is with that ridiculous batting order.

Tonight we head into Kansas City for three before heading to New York. Pedro takes the hill trying to halt this pattern we've fallen into of win 3 lose 3, win 3 lose 3. Blake Stein opposes the Sox with his 6.62 ERA. Unfortunately KC hasn't been the Sox best venue over the years and I specifically remember Pedro taking a shellacking over there as well (we actually won that game though) last year.

I was pretty darn close to perfect in predicting the line-up yesterday, so here's what I want to see tonight, and we'll probably get it (close to it anyway).

    1. Valentin SS   2. Offerman 1B   3. Everett CF   4. Ramirez DH   5. Bichette LF   6. Nixon RF   7. Hillenbrand 3B   8. Varitek C   9. Merloni 2B

Or Daubach @ 1B, in for Merloni, Offy to 2B, Dauber batting #6 , and Nixon #9. Everything else the same.

Two games in this series are a must and Pedro is the perfect guy to start it off.
