Power Surge: It's not often that one player (non-pitcher) single handedly defeats another team, but Tek did yesterday. 4-4 3HR 3R 7RBI   What a line. Looks like he's taken a liking to the #8 spot in the order. The worst thing Jimy could do right now is to move him up just because he's hot. Tek has never hit well higher than #7 in the order, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Frank Castillo: That's two in a row for him. Last time out vs the Twins it was one earned run over six. Yesterday it was one unearned over six, making that two game total twelve innings with only one earned run. I don't know about anyone else's standards, but that sure sounds like #2 pitcher stats to me. Who knows how long this will last, but since Nomo has started struggling a little, Castillo has picked up the slack. Johnny V: This is old news, but I have to put it in here again. I keep replaying that play he made on Friday night in my head (the DP). Wow! Other than the above there isn't a ton to mention. Manny keeps on moving along and yesterday proved that if we can get a little production from other areas of the order, we'll be unstoppable. Onto New York. Going into this nine game road trip I had said I wanted 6-3, but that 5-4 would be doable as well. Unfortunately in order to do either we're going to have to take 2 of 3 minimum in this next series. Hardly impossible, just a tall order. If I have the rotation correct in my head, Wakefield will go in game 1 tomorrow, Cone on Wednesday, then Pedro finishes the series on Thursday. Tuesday's game with Wakes on the mound is the real crucial one. Not only is winning the first one getting off on the right foot, but with Cone going in game two, who knows what's going to happen. It's probably a safe bet that it won't be pretty. Then game three is Pedro, as close to a lock as you can get, though not guaranteed by any means. So we need a big start out of Wakes on Tuesday, and we need the non-Manny bats to make some contributions. If we can take at least two, it'll be a successful road trip and we'll have a nice little cushion over NY in the standings. |
