A sense of normalcy

  • It was just over a week ago that I put up a message on the site that I wouldn't be updating much for the rest of the season, that I would not put in anymore effort for a team that gave us very little, if any, themselves...

All that seems pretty petty right now. Unbelievable how one event can change everything, absolutely everything. Even insignificant things like baseball are changed forever due to the tragedy in New York, at least for me anyway.

Like for instance, the fact that I call baseball insignificant, never really realized that before. Winning a World Series? Who cares. I'll trade a drought of no World Series for the rest of my life for the guarantee that something like this will never happen again.

It was common practice here on this site and the message board to refer to New York as the 'Evil Ones' and the word Yankees would never appear in its entirety on anything, the Y followed by several dashes is usually what you got. Though it was all in the name of the rivalry and good fun, it also seems kind of shallow right now.

Before last nights game I was hoping to come away after watching that game with one thing, to show everyone that Boston cared. Not that it was ever in question, but it needed to be done the Boston way. I was hoping someone in the crowd would start a "Lets go Yankees" chant, and it's possible it did happen but was not heard on TV. But I did see several signs in the crowd that spoke the same message, many to the effect of "I Love NY". I applaud those fans for throwing everything aside and showing the true colors of this city.

New York, for Boston Baseball fans, is like a family member that you really don't like, but they are family, and nobody is allowed to talk about, or make fun of them (nevermind harm) but us. Nobody!

Not sure if I'm making any sense at all today, as with the rest of the country this whole thing has thrown me for a loop. Sorry if I'm rambling.

I really want to say so much more, but putting it into to words is difficult. The pieces will be picked back up, we will find those responsible, and life will go on.

    Play Ball!
