He's heating up

  • I'm talking about Manny of course. Just think, we're going strong right now and the heart of the order hasn't even started to really get going yet. Manny is almost officially on fire with four more hits last night after grabbing three the night before, one more big game in a row and it's official. Nomar has been hitting, but he hasn't been HITTING quite yet. I'm so frustraded for him right now, two nights in a row off the top of the fence. UGH!

We all know the struggles of Tony Clark thus far, he's probably the only non-pitcher we can put the suck lable on right now. A lable that landed him on the bench last night in favor of Jose Offerman. Then of all places Little bats offy 6th in the line-up. Huh? We'll of course Offy made me look stupid and made Little look great on his way to a three hit night.

As much as the only way Clark is going to fight out of this slump is to be in the line-up, at the same time maybe we should ride Offy's hot streak (only one game at this point) and see if we get any nibbles from another team. There's always DH, so I guess both Clark and Jose can be in the line-up at the same time, but I really don't want it to be at the expense of a Henderson, or Baerga, or even Merloni.

  • What the heck has gotten into Darren Oliver? Actually he had a similar start last season with Texas and ended things with a 6+ ERA, so no getting excited quite yet. But like I said yesterday about Shea, ride it while he's going good.

Was it not beautiful to see three perfect DPs turned in three consecutive innings? The third, a 4-3 DP, by Rey Sanchez that doesn't get turned last year. Also the running game, twice last night innings were extended becasue the Sox finally have some speed on the team, preventing a couple of DPs turned against them.

  • John Burkett is finally ready to get his season going. After throwing 35 pitches on the side yesterday Little announced him as ready to go. He's scheduled to take the mound on Saturday against Kansas City, which was Wakefield's spot. Obvioulsy Burkett belongs in the rotation, but I think Wakes belongs there as well, not enough spots for too many pitchers. I suspect Wakes will be the first out of the pen on Saturday as I'm sure Burkett will be on a strict pitch count and I don't expect him to go more than 5 innings, maybe six at best.

  • No game tonight, boooooo, off to Kansas City for three starting Friday.
