No smiles yet

  • Well we can call it a winning streak, but I'm not excited yet, not even close. Like I said it's going to take a good 7 game streak to put any ray of hope on the season. At least I've got some sleep recently, even if the season is trashed, I feel better in general (the next day) if they win.

Manny got a nice smattering of boos on a short fly ball that he let fall in for a single early in the game. Not sure what it looked like on TV, but from the bleachers he definitely didn't go after it hard and would have easily been a ball that Nixon catches. Wonder if the boos had anything to do with Manny making that nice play in the corner that ended with a guy gunned down at the plate later on?

Pedro was Pedro, the offense did enough (against a good pitcher), and Urbina shut the door with his patented 'I can't go 1-2-3' ninth inning. But as always I do have a bone to pick, we should have had more runs.

Cliff Floyd has some very deceiving good numbers with the Sox. He's batting in the 300s, has four homers, and of his 20 hits with the Sox 13 are for extra bases. But Clifford isn't getting it done, to put it mildly, he's been horrendous with runners in scoring position. Four times he came to the plate with RISP last night, and four times he failed to deliver (left 8 on base). Anyone else notice he has 4 RBIs and 4 homers? And it can't be blamed on lack of base runners because we all know the Sox have been getting the hits right along, it's the RBI hits that have been the problem. You're getting off easy at the moment Mr. Floyd, the average fan sees the .313 average (with the Sox) and thinks you're doing your job. Not the case, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who has noticed.

Read the following very quietly. We have a shot at four in a row with Wakes on the mound Saturday. It's not the pitching I'm worried about, it's the bats supplying enough runs. Time to see if the fire lit by Nomar the other night is a 4 alarmer, or just a rug burn.
