I hate this freaking team

  • Damn it, why? I was all set to go ballistic this morning with the further ineptitude of this team and more new ways to lose ball games. I had it ready, I was really going to tear into Mike Cubbage for that absolutely stupid call of waving Damon in from second with no outs (in the 5th) and after Manny had hit an absolute laser beam into left field that a guy leading half way from 3rd couldn't have scored on. It was still a bone headed call, win or no win, Cubbage shouldn't get off easy on that one.

I was also going to delve into the numbers of Cliff Floyd and show how he really hasn't helped much yet (still hasn't really, numbers wise), maybe they'll come out later.

But no, as with all Red Sox teams they have to hang us by a thread to the very end. Last night's come back in the ninth and eventual 10th inning win was nothing short of amazing. I won't lie and say I stuck with it thru the whole thing, after Anaheim scored 4 (with two outs) in the 8th, I changed the channel, took a shower, read a book, and still seething I decided to pop in a movie (Van Wilder) so I could cool off and get some sleep.

Before pressing play I decided to see if the game had come to a merciful end, nope, not even close. I turned it back just after Tony Clark's walk in the ninth. No need to go thru the specifics of what happened next, you all saw or heard it. But after it was all done, even though I was glad they won, I simply couldn't crack a smile. Maybe it was because I had exhausted my self screaming and yelling at the TV thru the first half of the game. Maybe it was because that type of play has been non-existent since June first, or maybe it's because in the end that win isn't going to matter.

I'd like to say this is exactly the thing we needed to get it going, finally, after 3 months of mediocrity. But we all thought the same thing after Embree's inspiring performance in Minnesota, and Nomar's call to arms against Texas. I want to believe this is the turning point and that we just sent Anaheim into a tailspin making Seattle our only worry for the Wild Card spot. But I can't. I can't believe that anything good is going to happen until this team gives me a reason to get back on board. They need to do something for us for a change in 2002.

For 3 months we've been bitching and moaning about how the season is over, I'm probably more of an offender than anyone else. But we keep watching the games, we keep analyzing everything on the message board the next day, and we all also can't help but think a miracle can happen until the mathematics say otherwise.

I'm not back on board damn it! I don't believe! But what if...
