At least we won

  • Where would we be right now if it weren't for Lowe? I'm not taking anything away from Pedro, he's about as close to a baseball God as you can get. But think about it, take Lowe from the rotation and insert 'normal starting pitcher' in his place and where would we be? I don't want to think about it.

Last night may very well have been as close to a 'must win' situation as you can get with 50 or so games left. Last year at this exact time we were getting swept in Oakland and from there the season went in the toilet. Hopefully this is the start of a change in fortune, we'll see.

I'm still in a list mood, so here's another.

  • Had another good pitcher on the ropes early and did nothing with it.
  • Is Grady ever going to figure out that Tek isn't a #6 hitter?
  • Johnny Damon has been priceless this season. What a catch!
  • When we're winning it's not a big deal, but when things are going poorly (like now), Manny's nonchalant style of play drives me out of my mind.
  • No matter how bad things are going nobody is ever again allowed to let it go to the point of badgering Nomar. Last night they put up an amazing statistic about him. With less than 2 outs and a runner on 3rd, Nomar has driven in 73% of them. The league average is 55%.
  • You knew when Manny hit into the DP in the 8th, the 9th was going to be nerve wrecking.
  • Looks like Ugie is back to his 'I must give up a run in every appearance' ways.
  • We get the Twinkies tonight, they've lost four in a row. Can we take advantage?
