Sinking ship

  • If this string of horrible play has taught us anything it's that if we somehow wake up and play well enough to make the playoffs, we don't have a chance in hell of winning anything.

I have no doubt that we'll start to play better, maybe even tonight. Heck I'll go as far as to say we'll have another 9 game winning streak before the year is out. But you know what all that means when it really counts? NOTHING! As this team stands right now, pick them up, put them in the playoffs and they go nowhere.

This was eluded to (by NSD I believe) on the message board yesterday. If something isn't done upstairs in terms of player acquisitions, don't expect anything come playoff time.

  • Anyone who is still on the Tony Clark bandwagon is so helplessly deluded that you're beyond hope. What looked like it could have been an upgrade at 1st has turned into the worst situation we've had over there in the last three years.

Offerman didn't play last night but while I'm beating people up why not throw a cheap shot his way. Offy, you suck, go find Tony, take a walk, and never come back.

Hey Nomar, when you're in a slump taking a pitch or two may be a good idea. I know your career average when swinging at the 1st pitch is like .400, but when things are going bad, everything does. Anyone else notice that all pitchers are doing is throwing the ball outside and letting Nomar get himself out when he's trying to pull that pitch?

Same goes for you Shea, ever stop to think what made you so successful in the 1st half? We all knew the walks wouldn't hold up, but that's no reason to completely throw plate discipline out the window.

The bullpen? Forget it, we have Ugie right now, that's it (Embree is on the DL), and even he hasn't been enough of late. Brandon Inge? UGH!!!!

  • No doubt I'll be excited if/when they start playing well again, and I'm sure I'll be drawn back in with thoughts of 'what if?' But when we get blown out of the playoffs (if we make it) 3-1 in the 1st round, I'll come back to this post and see that I should have listened to what I said just after the All-Star break. Unless John Henry and Co. give Mike Port the go ahead to make some moves, REAL MOVES... see you guys in the spring.
