Did the whining do it?

  • Between myself, NSD, and bosox2287 we did enough bitching and moaning on the message board yesterday, that I think the players may very well have heard us. If not for their own benefit and to get the team a win, then just to shut us up.

Not that we didn't have anything to complain about, thru the first five innings we got the same crud we've been dealing with for almost a week. Fortunately in the end, it seems that Manny 'could' be getting hot, 18 hits for the game says we can still hit, and the Nomar leading off experiment has to end now.

You can tell Nomar is pressing to no end, trying to win the game with each at bat. I wanted him to get a hit so badly when they walked Damon intentionally (to load em up) in order to get to him. Hopefully a diet of Tampa pitching for the next two days will awaken the bats a little more and allow Nomar to just do his thing. That and a return to the #3 spot in the order, the lead off thing hasn't exactly worked out (1-11 thus far).

  • My only gripe on the pitching side yesterday was Burkett in the 1st inning. Not because of the walk or hit batter (though I didn't enjoy it either), it was the fact that he gave up a hit to Randall Simon. Every game Sean and Jerry comment on how this guy swings at everything. In Monday's game the guy saw 6 pitches in 4 at bats, he just gets up there and hacks away, especially at the 1st pitch. So what does Burkett do? He serves a fat one over (1st pitch) for him to drive for a single. Why? The guy swings at everything, you should be pitching everywhere but at the strike zone against him. Especially early in the count, let him get himself out. ARGH!

It worked out I guess, but one win doesn't solve our problems. Nor does 18 hits suddenly say we don't need another hitter at this time, and don't forget about the pen, a 5 run win masks their deficiencies as well.

Lowe vs Paul Wilson tonight in Tampa.
