Needed that one

  • Sorry for the lack of an update yesterday, I was 'out sick' from work and I do about 95% of the updates while at work due to the connection speed being allot better. Besides after being at the game Tuesday night I needed a day to brood.

Anyway, yesterdays win was a big one, as we now head to Atlanta for three and then to the West Coast for 3 with San Diego and 3 more with the Dodgers. After thinking about it, I think I'm going to resort back to making totally irrational and practically impossible demands of the team. I got a little soft for a while due to all the winning, but now that we've been scuffling for a bit, I think it time to kick some ass back into gear.

So, that said, I want two of three in Atlanta. You all probably think I'm nuts demanding that, especially since we'll have to face both Maddux and Glavine in the series. Well guess what? I don't care! And to further my demands, I'll actually be at the games in Atlanta on Friday (Pedro Vs Millwood) and Saturday (Burkett Vs Maddux). I will not have an unhappy plane ride home on Sunday morning.

  • As for yesterday's game, it was ugly as stated above. But a win is a win, and the Diamondbacks actually decided to wake up from their bout with futility and were able to salvage the last game of their set with the Empire. So the lead in the East is back to 1.5 games. Yeah, like that's any kind of lead at all.

  • Not to dwell on the past or start whining like a little girl but I just have to get this off my chest. I think I see why young pitchers don't usually make it in Boston. I had mentioned a few days ago how it looks like Little is going to let Fossum take his licks while he learns how to pitch. Well all I can say is, I never want to see him on the mound again at this point. Is that fair? Heck no, but we can't afford to have him losing games for us and wasting stellar performances like the one Arrojo gave us on Tuesday. I as much as anyone want to see Fossum do well, but even before he set foot on the mound, as he was running in from the pen (on Tuesday) between innings, I looked at my wife and said "I bet he gets crushed."

He didn't exactly get crushed, you have to at least find the plate for that to happen, but either way he lost the game for us. Oh, it's not all his fault, we had chances to score and failed miserably (that damn rain delay came at the worst time possible), but the bottom line is that Fossum was brought in to do a job an didn't get it done (and hasn't been getting it done).

Just to back track my steps a little further, and make myself really sound like I can't make a decision, there really wasn't anyone else for Little to go to. Think about it, other that Ugie and Wakefield (who couldn't pitch Tuesday) is there anyone out there that is reliable in the pen?

The issue hasn't changed a bit, this team is in dire need of another reliable arm in the pen. We may be able to get through the regular season this way, but come playoff time, forget it.

  • Ahh, I feel better now... I think. No game tonight, boooooooo, as I said I'll be down in Atlanta tomorrow on the third base line (closer to left field than 3B). Two of three, you heard it here first.
