Vintage

  • Absolutely vintage Pedro last night, the Padres had no chance. To this point Pedro has been sort of a Jeckyl and Hide starter, last night he pitched just about as well as he ever has. You knew when he struck out the first 5 batters he faced all we needed to do was spot him a couple of runs and he'd do the rest.

Pedro even started the rally and scored the only run he'd end up needing. A two out walk in the 5th opened the door for a Henderson single and a Johnny Damon 2-run triple. The rest of the runs on the night would not be needed with Pedro's 100-pitch count taking him into the 8th inning.

  • The Sox even got some help from the Rockies in a slugfest that saw Colorado on top in the end 14-11. At one point NY had an 8-1 lead, only to have it implode in their face.

Off to LA we go with the Empire following us into San Diego. Doubtful we can expect the Padres to give us much help so this Dodgers series becomes very important.

Burkett takes the hill against old friend Hideo Nomo tonight. The key to Nomo is patience. We know he's going to strike some people out, we know he's not the easiest guy in the world to hit, but we also know he's going to give up 4-6 walks if you allow him to. Need to instill patience tonight and play the 3-run HR game.
