Back on the wagon

  • We won the game so I guess I shouldn't bitch and moan, but has anyone noticed how hittable Burkett has become of late? Burkett has allowed 17 hits over his last 12 2/3 innings, which puts him at a ratio of 1.35 (without the walks). The bats have been there for him both times, but he needs to turn it up a notch, especially since we into that month that hasn't always been kind to us (I will not speak it's name).

After a coupe game slumber Johnny Damon has busted out the woopin stick with three hits on Monday and four more last night. The leaf-off man sets the tone, and Damon's tone of late has been music to our ears (OK that was really bad).

Seems it's been a different guy stepping into the 'fill Manny's shoes' role every few games. Right now it's Baerga, with the biggest hit of the game last night, his bases clearing double in the fourth.

I was sort of surprised to not see Tony Clark in the line-up yesterday (unless it was due to an injury I haven't heard about). I wouldn't exactly call him hot by any means, but he does seem to be getting luke-warm, and usually a return to the old stomping grounds can spur a player into a genuine hot streak.

Clark's replacement, Offerman, hadn't played in a couple of days. Did anyone even notice? Seriously, did anyone even realize that Offerman hadn't been in the line-up for two or three days? Funny and sort of sad at the same time, poor Offy, not. It seems to be the case with Ray Sanchez as well. Not that we don't notice he's missing, but with Merloni in there for him there's been pretty much zero drop off. Looks like Affleck may have lit a fire under Lou's but.

  • As predicted the Os are not going to give us anymore help as far as extending our lead over the Empire. Failure to turn a makeable double play late in the game (giving the Y-----s an extra out) sparked an eight run inning. An inning they would have come away with nothing had the DP been turned.

Lowe tonight, sinker ball pitcher in the games biggest park, sounds like a good match-up.
