Perfect Recipe

  • As I mentioned yesterday, you have to love you're chances with a sinkerball pitcher in the biggest park in the majors. The result was almost predictable, and more than satisfactory. What can you say about Derek Lowe that isn't positive? If there's any knock against him at all it's that he has to hold up over a full season. Something he hasn't proved or disproved yet.

You gotta love it when your 1-2-3 hitters go a combined 9-15 with 3 runs and 9 RBIs. With the exception of Nomar's 0-5 blurp on Tuesday, he, Damon, and Baerga have been on fire. Manny is still probably a good 15-20 games away from coming back, so those guys need to stay hot.

Of all people to get a homer robbed it didn't need to be Tony Clark. I'd have rather had Manny get one robbed and have him miss the homer title by one dinger, than Clark have one robbed at this point. Well, to put a positive spin on it, Clark did rack up two more hits, and maybe the theft will tick him off enough to keep hitting it hard.

  • Sort of a side note here, and maybe it's me just thinking I've spotted something when I couldn't be further from the truth, but here goes. Has anyone ever seen Trot go to the opposite field? I say this only because it seems like every time he faces a lefty pitcher, all they do is keep the ball away, away, away. If he could discipline himself to stay on those pitches a little longer, I'm thinking he could easily deposit a few of them into left field. The thought just sort of occurred to me, because I can't remember the last time Trot hit the Monster in Fenway.

  • A cheer goes out to the Os who took another game in New York last night, allowing us to gain another on the Empire and now lead by three. I'm as shocked as anyone, but this also pretty much guarantees a NY win tonight in the 4th and final game of that series.

So obviously that means we need to pick this bonus game up tonight. I say bonus because I was looking for a split going into this series, and since we've already won two of them, the third is bonus time.

With Arrojo on the hill tonight the bats have to stay hot. He pitched well in NY last time out, but the Tigers are the exact type of team that I can see Rolly going out there and not really concentrating on what's going on. Some have mentioned that he seems to have a lack of concentration at times, usually against bad teams or easy situations. Those fences in Detroit aren't looking so far back today.
