Spring Rolls Along
3/8/02

  • For all that has gone on recently and is still going on, yesterday was a realtively quiet day in Sox camp. No news, is good news, on the Pedro front, and John Burkett, so far, has impressed in his two spring outings. Again, I can't stress enough, that all these starts, as far as numbers go, are completely meaningless. We've all learned the hard way what happens if you take Spring results with more than a grain of salt. That said, you'd always like to perform well no matter the circumstances.

  • Interviews for the Sox managing vacancy are starting up, and so far the leading candidate I'm hearing is Indians bench coach Grady Little. I know Little was here in Boston with Jimy for a while, but other than that I have no idea if he's qualified or not for the job. But if we go by what the players whan, Little is the guy.

The second leading candidate, Ken Macha, is no longer a candidate at all. The A's denied the Sox permission to interview him for the job. The Globe explains that it was simply bad timing, since it's close to opening day the A's didn't want to lose a member of thier staff this far into the Spring.
