Are there any Derek Lowe doubters left out there? The guy can pitch, period. He's got some absolutely amazing stats going at this point in the season, but I will not mention them for reasons I cannot explain to you. If you understood that last sentence, then you really are a diehard. My only concern about Lowe is can he hold up for the entire season? We all know he has a rubber arm with all the innings he was able to contribute out of the pen, but this will be his first season where he's going to get upwards of 200+ innings. Not trying to burst any bubbles or slow the momentum, but I think it's a valid question. Another tid-bit about Shea, as mentioned by Peter Gammons on Baseball Tonight last night. Gammons quoted something Lou Pinella said about Shea, that after AROD and Manny, Shea is the best right-handed hitter in the AL. I don't know if any of us are ready to put that label on Shea just yet, he still needs to prove that he can continue his success through the course of a full season. But if the first 41 games are any indication of things to come, Shea very well may jump into that list of elite names. |
