Playing for stats

  • Since there’s no playoff implications on any of the games the Sox play I need to find other reasons to watch (besides not getting enough punishment). So I root for certain players to reach different statistical goals.

Barring anymore injuries Pedro can get himself another 20 win season with 2 more wins and Lowe can nab himself a 20 win campaign if he's able to snag one win out of his final 3-4 starts he has left. Urbina could reach 40 saves (currently 33), but that would mean we'd have to start winning allot of close games.

On the offensive side even with Manny missing 6 weeks he can still hit 30 dingers (29 right now) and drive in over 100 runs (94). We still haven't had him for a full season and look at the sick numbers he's put up in a Sox uniform so far.

If Trot (23) and Nomar (22) get real hot both could reach 30 homers. A bit of a stretch, I know, but the schedule is in their favor if it's going to be done. A better bet is Nomar breaking his career high in RBIs (122) currently at 109. Trot needs to drive in 6 more to match his career high in RBIs (88) and 4 more long balls to match the homer high of 27.

With this only his second season Shea is going for career highs in just about everything (has pretty much surpassed it all already as well), but I would like to see at least 3 more homers from him so he can reach 20 and I'd also like to see his 77 RBIs turn into 85 or so before the season ends.

Daubach pretty much couldn't be anymore consistent. His last three home run totals were 21,21, and 22. Right now he has 18, and with his bat heating up a bit should reach/pass that mark. The same story applies to his RBIs as well 73,76,71 in his last 3 seasons, and currently he sits at 68. We all know Dauber to be pretty much the streakiest hitter on the team, but the consistency in his numbers is scary.

After that there's not much to look for except maybe Damon stealing 40 bases. That one is probably the biggest stretch of all the numbers I'd like the players to reach. Johnny currently sits at 29 steals and with his on/off knee problems the 2nd half, I think I’ll be happy if/when he reaches 30.

The only other number I can think of to watch is Nomar's double total. He's at 49 right now, his career high of 51 should definitely go down. I'd like to see 60, but realistically I think he can reach 55.

Anything else anyone is looking for as far as stat goals for individual players? Start a new thread on the message board, it's been dead for 3-4 days now. As disappointed and ticked off as I am at this team, I still find the need to talk about them. I'm sick. We're all sick.
