They tried...

  • ...the pen that is, to blow yet another game. I hate games that we win, but it ends with me feeling like we took another step backwards. It was maddening to me how we couldn't put up the knockout punch on Park, he was awful. We had him on the ropes in the first inning, his control was all off and he was serving up meatballs. So what does Millar do? He swings at the first pitch he sees (out of the zone) and grounds into a DP to kill the inning. Same thing happened in the next few innings as well, Park was bad, but we played into it.

Overall the plate discipline has been phenomenal, so I guess we can't get all mad over one game, but damn, don't you feel like that 5-4 nail biter should have been a 14-4 thumping?

Pedro may have won his last two starts since the shelacking he took at the hands of the Os, he's even held opponenets to only 1 run (I beleive) over his last 13-14 innings, but he's definetly not been the same Pedro. Six walks last night, and I though the three against the D-Rays his last time out was alot. Got to give him credit though, even when he doesn't have his best stuff, he's still one of the best in the game.

Now for that frickin thing in the outfield we call the bullpen. UGH! The first REAL test they get, and had it not been for a seemingly meaningless homer from Manny in the 8th, we'd have headed to extra innings, and I definelty don't like our chances there.

Short of the bats going ballistic this whole trip (not out of the realm of possibility), or the rotation going 7-8 innings per game (not likely), this could get ugly quick. It's all fine when you do it at home, but you find out what your made of on the road. So far the pen is made of balsa wood and school glue.
