What a game. I still can't say for sure if the Sox earned it or if KC simply gave the game away. One one hand, there was the game ending error, the wild pitch that allowed the tieing run in the 8th, and of course Mike MacDougal's wildness. Sounds like a giveaway to me. Then there's the Sox who loaded the bases with one out in the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings and didn't drive in a single run (well, maybe there was one in the ninth), which had me pulling my hair out and ready to go nuts with this write-up. You could make an argument though that they did earn it, in that, even though they kept avoiding the big hit, they kept the pressure on, there was no let up. In seasons past usually a missed opportunity like the one in the seventh, would spell the end of the game. Not so thus far with the 2003 Sox. The pen gets a 6 out of 10 for the night. Mendoza was very good until the 9th, and then Lyon allowed his inherited runners to score (not what a 'closer' is supposed to do). I can't figure it out, was that a positive write up? |
