As long as they win

  • It hasn't happened often this season so I can't really complain about it, but I don't think anything drives me more crazy than when a nobody pitcher shuts us down. Thompson has been shelled in all but two of his starts this season, and both have been against the Sox.

Even after the 7th inning last night, I still wasn't all that worried about putting some runs on the board. For the most part this offense is way too good to keep down for very long. My concern the whole time was if the pen could hold it, if/when we took the lead.

No complaints from here on Burkett's performance last night. Considering the line-up he was up against I think he was stellar. Grady on the other hand is spiraling further and further from any semblence of a good manager. Maybe his hands are tied with how bad the pen has been, but you'd think he'd realize by now that Burkett can go five, sometimes six innings, that's it. And once he gives up a few hits in a row it's time for him to come out. For whatever reason Grady seems to think Burkett can get one more out all the time.

I have a second complaint for Grady as well. Why the heck wasn't Giambi in the line-up? The guy just has his game of the season, possibly getting himself straightened out, and you kill all that momentum by sitting him the next game. When the team is winning, these are the type of things that go unnoticed, becasue if the player bitches when things are good, he looks like a baby and gets the wrath of the fans. What has Ortiz done lately that he desetrved to be insterted back into the line-up right away?

Anyway, great come-from-behind victory last night. With this offense, there's always a chance to win no matter what inning it is, if we could only get some consistant pitching going, we'd be the best team in the game.
