"What's the matter, Papa?" "Nothing, my dear... now go to your room, please. Natalya, Come with me." Natalya's my mother. She's the most beautiful creature in the world. Then they showed up... They destroyed everything. I saw them run through my father. Thankfully I never saw my mother, but her screams were enough. So here I huddle. In this little hedge. In the heat of the day. I feel the midges eating the dried blood off my matted fur. A parasite bites the back of my neck, making me wince and draw breath. The otter grunts and shuffles toward me. I start to slowly move further down, breathing shallowly and cursing my horrid luck. He starts to prod the area near me with his spear. He stabs to the left of me first. I start to shake uncontrollably. Then he pokes to the right of me, figures. I cringe, sweating into my tunic. Finally the spear comes down again. I feel the heat blossom across my eyes. I hear him chuckle and dimly see him wipe off my fresh blood. He tastes it. 'My god.' My mind says, 'I'm gonna lose my life to these savage creatures. He's probably think of his handiwork.' I see him start to adjust his oufit and unfasten his belt. Knowing what's coming, I turn away. I feel the heat splatter on to me and am nauseated by the smell. He sighs with satisfaction and walk off. After all he's done. All the indignities. I will not allow this. I creep to the edge of the hedge, feeling myself get dizzy and nauseous, blood running down my face. I would have scared him shitless, if he hadn't been already. Silently creeping up behind him as he crudely belched after eating our food. I helped harvest that. I will not let this go. I jump on his back, swiftly shoving the shiv through his right eye. I feel the eye pop and the juices inside it squirt onto my hand. He screams in pain, saliva spraying on me as he started to scream, his breath rancid. I fall off him, grinning at my handiwork. As he writhes, clutching his face, the others stare at me in horror. One steps forward with a bow. As I see him, I feel a tugging at my heart, then a sudden flash af pain, as an arrow grows out of my chest. Looking down again, I see the the arrow meld into me. Looking back at them, they start to back away from me. I landed next to the headge when I fell, and now it seems to grow into me. I see the vines crawling up my arms, a pull at my chest, a new mindset. 'Look at yourself.' It said. Grinning with the new voice and sanity, I throw my hand out in front of me. The forest obeys my whim and closes around the Woodlanders. I hear crunching noises and screams issue from the bramble. I slowly let the forest subside, revealing a bloody mess. I hear groaning beneath me. I look down to see the otter beneath me groan. Smiling, I shove my foot through his skull, a sickening crunch sound issues from beneath my foot. I smear the contents on the ground, feeling it squish between my fingers. 'Hmmm... this is divine retribution. Yes, that's it, I am devine. We are divine.' Into the wood, my kin, I crash blindly, leaving the stench and desolation behind me. I look for more blood and carnage to thrive off of. I need to be appeased. And somewhere, far off, an innocent foxmaid is slowly dying... |
